Sunday, June 20, 2010
Nglanggeran Hills are hills at Gunungkidul Residence that has beautiful view. This hills placed at the north side of Gunungkidul Residence in direction of Klaten Residence, Middle Java. This place was not far away from the center of Yogyakarta City. It’s about 20km to the southeast from Yogyakarta City. When we go there, we can through curving street with beautiful hills scene. Before we arrive to Nglanggeran Hills, at the hills area at Pathuk Subdistrict, we have viewed with beautiful scene of Yogyakarta City like in Puncak-Bogor-West Java. When we arrive in a crossroad not far away from Old Pathuk Village Office, we must turn left, pass through small road around 6 km for reach Nglanggeran Hills. Before we reach Nglanggeran Hills we presented some TV transmitter tower and some cellular operator antenna at the edge of this small road. After we arrive at Tawang Crossroad, we must turn right follow small road as far as 2 km and we arrived at the bottom of Nglanggeran Hills.
At the bottom of Nglanggeran Hills, there are so many big stone spread. Some big stones bigger than a house and elephants. Between the big stone there is a house like a public building. This public building used as traditional ritual/ceremony place. As some villager said, we can park our vehicle at the village near the hill. We only paid Rp2000 for park a motorbike and Rp5000 for park a car for along day. Through that village we can start climb the hill pass through small footstep to aim Nglanggeran Hills. It is not long time to reach the top of the hills. The distance of hill climbing around 2,5 km for parking area and it can reach only in 1,5 hours.

And when we reach the top of the hills we will be impressed. Beautiful nature scene can viewed from here. The road bendeds like snakes, wet rice fields like green ladder and trees spread out area like green beautiful carpet. At the top of this hills we can see Wonosari City surroundings by the green hills. We also can enjoy the fresh air, composure and peacefully.Gebyar Wisata Nusantara (Indonesia Tourism Galore)

Yogyakarta offers spots with natural nuances
Tuesday, December 9, 2008
If you are bored with visiting large cities and modernity, just come to Yogyakarta. In Kota Gede you can find a lot of tourist spots with a natural nuance and traditional Javanese elements.
A visitor can enjoy the rural nuances while interacting with local farmers, plow rice fields and plant or harvest rice. Or try your hand at making local crafts such as batik.
Besides the rural nuances, the food served is also traditional. Some of the dishes are based on recipes from Serat Centhini (an ancient Javanese book).
Natural and traditional nuances can be found in Sogan Village, a batik and furni-craft center with a restaurant in Rejodani hamlet, Sariharjo village, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Established in 2002 by Iffah M. Dewi, Sogan Village is located on 3,000 square meters of land and has a traditional Javanese atmosphere.
This atmosphere is apparent as soon as you enter Sogan Village. At the entrance there are two old buildings, a limasan (pyramidal) building, which was put up in 1854, and a joglo building dating back to 1858. Even the kitchen in Sogan Village is very old as it makes use of a building formerly used by the Dutch for drying tobacco.
The general manager of Sogan Village, Beny Tarigan, said that besides rural tourism, they also arrange tours such as trekking to Mount Merapi or white-water rafting on River Elo.
"We collaborate with professional teams with a good reputation in Yogyakarta," Beny said.
After enjoying nature-related tourism while savoring the panorama of Mount Merapi, a visitor can have a meal at Sogan Village restaurant, where 90 percent of the items on the menu are uniquely local dishes such as gudek (a dish made from young jackfruit), sambal krecek (baked buffalo hide with hot spicy sauce) and roast beef rib soup.
In Sogan Village, local people produce handicrafts, particularly hand-made batik. Visitors can take part in the making of these handicrafts. There is also a batik and handicrafts store here.
Not far from Sogan Village, about five kilometers to the southwest, is Kampung Kuntul (village of white herons). Located in Ketingan hamlet, Tirtoadi, Mlati, Sleman, Kampung Kuntul has thousands of white herons.
During the early wet season, thousands of white herons fly to Ketingan to mate. Every year, baby herons hatch and stay in Ketingan until they are old enough to fly. Their nests can be found in mlinjo trees that locals plant around their houses.
In the morning, visitors can enjoy the cool weather of the rural area while observing the activities of the white herons. They can see the white herons from a close distance and watch them feed their young.
Local people take good care of the herons and provide trees where the birds can make their nests. They also serve as a source of food. Every year over 3,000 visitors come to Ketingan to watch these birds.
There are homestays that rent rooms for Rp 75,000 per night, including traditional meals. At night, visitors can take in various traditional art performances.
Nature-related tours can be made not only to Sleman but also to Bantul. Here you can go to Tembi Cultural House on Jl. Parangtritis Km 8.4, which has the Tembi Resort Ndeso, which is a hotel with an ancient nuance.
Located in Tembi, Timbulharjo, Sewon, Bantul, Tembi Resort Ndeso has seven bungalows. They are all old like the limasan and joglo houses. Although they are hundreds of years old, these buildings are sturdy.
Aside from the panorama of nature, all the furnishings at Tembi Resort Ndeso are old. The hotel also has an open-air swimming pool with water always flowing into it. While swimming, a visitor can watch the activities of the local farmers.
The dishes served are traditional and taken from Serat Centhini, a book written in 1824. The menu items include buntil (dish made from papaya leaves), krecek, gudek, sambal jengot (hot spicy sauce made from grated young coconut).
The rates are also reasonable, considering the array of facilities offered. The seven bungalows are offered at rates ranging from Rp 386,100 to Rp 918,500 per night. One building is large enough for one family.
Collaborating with local artists and other galleries, Tembi Resort Ndeso offers traditional art performances on demand or they take visitors to watch art performances elsewhere.
If you walk farther south, to be exact to Kampung Giriloyo, you can also find a batik village. For hundreds of years, Giriloyo has been noted as a batik village. At present some 7,000 villagers are actively engaged in batik-making.
"You only have to pay Rp 45,000 per person and you can enjoy this handicraft-related tour. With a handicraftsman as a guide, you can see locals make batik and can be directly involved in batik-making," said Nur Achmadi, a resident of Giriloyo.
Nur Achmadi said the Rp 45,000 includes lunch and a snack, which are all traditional. You will be served tumpengan (conical rice plus vegetables) to be eaten together or ingkkung (free-range chicken cooked whole in spices).
Two kilometers to the southwest of Giriloyo, there is a place for agriculture-related tourism, namely in Kebon Agung, Omogiri, Bantul. In Kebon Agung, a visitor can plow a rice field or harvest rice. He can also go canoeing as there is a big irrigation dam there.
As a village for agriculture-related tourism, there is also a farmer's museum where various farming implements are displayed. Some of them are hundreds of years old such as a 1921 jodang (fruit tray used in a harvest ritual), a 1883 gentong (large vessel for storing unhusked rice), a luku (plow) made in 1927, a hoe, a sickle, dandang (copper vessel for steaming rice) and kukusan (a cone-shaped bamboo basket for steaming rice). Also on display are cooking utensils such as anglo (charcoal brazier), dandang, ceting bambu (small bamboo rice container) and farmer's equipment such as lesung (mortar) and pipisan (herbal medicine mixer).
In the late afternoon, a visitor can proceed to Parangtritis beach to see the sunset. Besides enjoying the panorama of the sea, a visitor can also enjoy the sight of a wide expanse of sand dune east of Parangtritis beach.

Malioboro, Nostalgia in Souvenirs Paradise
Monday, August 25, 2008
Stretching on imaginary poles connecting Yogyakarta Sultan Palace, Tugu and the peak of Merapi Mountain, this street forms trading locality after Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I developed means of trading through traditional market since 1758. After 248 years, the place still persists as a trading area; it even becomes the icon of Yogyakarta, known as Malioboro.
Located around 800 meters from Yogyakarta Sultan Palace, this place was always crowded with flowers each time the Palace held ceremonies. Malioboro that in Sanskrit means bouquet serves as a basis for naming this street.
Framed by shops, offices, restaurants, star hotels and historical buildings, the street that once functioned as struggling center during the second Dutch military aggression in 1948 was once a place of wandering for the artists joining together in Persada Studi Klub (PSK) community led by Umbul Landu Paranggi since 1970s to around the end of 1990s.
Legendary Hotel
Entering Malioboro Street, tourists will be welcomed by a legendary hotel in Yogyakarta. Since its foundation in 1908, this hotel that started operating since 1911 beautified itself from a cottage to a luxurious, four-star hotel while
keeping its original architecture pattern namely one main building and the additional buildings at the right and left wings. Originally named Grand Hotel De Djokdja in the Dutch colonial time and only served guests of the Dutch Governor, it now becomes Inna Garuda that can be accessed by public community. Rooms 911 and 912 are special because they once were used as the office for People's Safety Troop led by General Sudirman.
Souvenirs Paradise
Enjoying shopping experience, hunting exclusive souvenirs of Jogja, tourists may walk on foot along the arcades of Malioboro Street. There are many vendors selling their merchandises, ranging from such local handicrafts as batik, rattan ornament, leather puppet, bamboo handicrafts (key holder, ornament lamp, and others) as well as blangkon (Javanese / Jogjanese traditional cap) and silver goods to general little things that you may find in other trading places. Along the arcade, tourists will not only enjoy shopping peacefully on sunny or rainy days but they also enjoy bargaining prices. If they are good at bargaining and have good luck, they will end up buying at third quarter or even half of the prices offered.
Do not forget to save energy. There is still one big traditional market tourists must visit. Well known as Pasar Beringharjo, this market provides complete traditional products in addition to similar goods sold along the arcade of Malioboro Street. In addition to local products of Jogja, products from neighboring areas such as Pekalongan batik and Solo batik are available. There are many choices of hand made batik, printed batik, window curtain with unique motifs and batik bed sheet. This place will satisfy the desire of buying unique goods at reasonable price.
Please make sure that you are not cheated by the offered prices. Usually, the vendors will increase the prices for tourists.
Malioboro Cross-Legged Food Vendors (Lesehan, Javanese Language)
When the sun sets in the west and at the same time the lights along the street and the arcade add more beauty to Malioboro, food sellers begin to set the cross-legged eating place. Special menu of Jogja such as Gudeg and Pecel Lele are served in addition to oriental cuisines and sea food as well as Padang cuisine of West Sumatra. The street singers will sing hit songs and memory songs for some small change.
For tourists who are going to try menus served along Malioboro Street, please do not hesitate to check the price list and confirm it to the seller to prevent illogical charge.
Visiting Yogyakarta, the city known as "The Javanese Culture Living Museum" will not be complete unless you pay a visit to the street that keeps various stories of Indonesian Nation struggle and crowded with various souvenirs. It is paradise for history lovers and souvenirs hunters. (source YogYES.COM)

Sayang maksud hati ingin mempercantik diri tapi apa daya malah salah langkah.

In Jogja, Gudeg has been widespread in almost every area, from the Gudeg center on Wijilan Street to other places.
A lot of cafes or small restaurants serve Gudeg with various tastes, surely the prices follows, especially at Wijilan Street. Besides tasting the Gudeg, we can find many kinds of special traditional handicraft.
Vendors of Gudeg usually attract the customers’ attention by making an attractive packaging named kendhil (a clay-made package). It does not only make the serving become more attractive but also makes the taste become more delicious. We can find the Gudeg Kendhil in almost every place which serves gudeg.
Gudeg is made from unripe jackfruit boiled with special spices and coconut milk (santan). The top and the bottom parts of the pan used to boil the spices and the coconut milk (santan) is covered with unripe Jati leaves. To get a perfect and delicious taste and color of the Gudeg, those ingredients are boiled all night. The Jati leaves are used to get an attractive color. The areh or sauce is made from coconut milk (santan), spices, and turmeric as the artificial color. It is poured on the ready-to-serve Gudeg. The Gudeg itself has a sweet taste.
Gudeg is usually served with warm rice, egg, chicken, ceker, tofu, tempe, chip, fried onion, etc. We can also serve a glass of tea, ice tea, orange juice, fresh water, etc for the beverages. It is not complete if we come to Jogja without tasting Gudeg. Read more...
BATIK ; Indonesian Traditional Textile
Sunday, February 3, 2008
The motifs of Batik, especially with old pattern, as in other field of Javanese tradition are symbolizing something. Might be, this is one of the reasons, why people still adore batik up to present date. Some of the motifs are :
- Sido Mulyo :Sido (you should be ), mulyo (happy). Symbolizing 'you should be happy and rich man'.
- Sido Dadi :Symbolizing 'you should be a man/woman as you wish (prosperous, high ranking position, wealthy, etc)'.
- Satrio Wibowo :Symbolizing 'Man with dignity'.
- Tikel Asmorodono :Tikel (more), Asmoro (love), Dono (gift). It is meant the one who wears this batik, should be loved more and more by others.
The Process of Batik Making
Batik, in Javanese means 'To Dot'. Basically there are two kinds of batik; Batik Tulis (hand drawn) and Batik Cap (stamped). The price of batik tulis is much more expensive than batik cap.
Doting
A canting (a pen like instrument with a small reservoir of liquid wax) is applied to the cloth of batik tulis making. The tracing of the desired design on to the prepared cloth is the first stage of making followed by the technique of applying wax and dye substances. At the final stage of the process, all the wax scraped off and the cloth boiled to remove all traces of the wax. This process of repeatedly waxing and dyeing is the batik process, used until nowadays in Java and other parts of Indonesia.
So, this kind art of batik is an indigenous to the country. The wax used in batik process is a combined product of paraffin, bees-wax, plant resins called gondorukem and mata kucing.
Batik cap, which is also using the waxing process, its process of course faster and easier. But people appreciation of batik tulis is higher, it is really a work of an artist not only a craftsman. It combines the expertise, patience, deep feeling to produce the finest product, and it may take days, weeks and even months to make only a batik tulis.
The Cities of Batik
Yogyakarta and Solo are the centers of traditional of batiks, as the north coastal town of Pekalongan is the center of more modern batiks, using more floral and birds motifs. There are some well-known artists of batik design in Yogya and Solo, as well as some big batik manufacturers with famous trademarks.
The growing production of batik makes way to the establishment of mori (woven cotton fabrics) factories in Yogya and Central Java. The Batik research Institute was founded in Yogya.
When Batik is Worn
Batik dresses are worn for several purposes, such as ;

- Traditional OccasionsIt is worn to present the traditional wedding ceremonies, special ceremonies for the Royal families, etc.
In a wedding ceremony the bride and the bridegroom wear the same motif of batik Sidomukti, symbolizing a happiness and prosperous life. Using the same motif symbolizing the togetherness. The parents of the bride and the bridegroom wear batik with motif of Truntum, symbolizing the advice of the parents to the newly weds to enter the new life with full of love and confidence.

Memasuki areal kebun, kami membayar retribusi sebesar Rp 1000,- per orang.
WONOSARI – Tiap musim kemarau tiba, Gunung Kidul, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) jadi langganan berita.
WANAGAMA, an Oasis in Lime Hill
Monday, January 28, 2008
Wanagama Forest functions as an educational forest for the Faculty of Forestry Gadjah Mada University. In this area, there i s a W o o d Museum, a unique and interesting tourism object. It is located about 7 kms westward of Wonosari. The area of Wanagama Forest can be found on a path about 100 m from Wonosari-Jogja Street.
This forest area as wide as 600 hectares was once visited by President Megawati and some important officials of the country. Even, Prince Charles and Prince Bernhard left remembrance in this place. The path they took now becomes favorite path for visitors.
Funds from Silkworm
As long as 35 kilometers journey from the city center, under the hot sun, was quite tiring. Arriving at Gading village, however, the weather began to be cloudy. We turned to the right at the first junctions, passing through a street that only accommodated two cars. Arriving at the T-junction, we turned right and went straight the natural street with fields on both sides. At the end of the street, there was a gate with the writing "Welcome" greeted us accompanied with fresh air.
Wanagama that means Gadjah Mada Forest was only 10 hectares and was on barn areas. The Forestry Department of Gadjah Mada University, initiated by Oemi Hani'in Suseno and Tri Setyo assisted by Wagiran, a local inhabitant, reforested the area in 1964. The main objective was to find a model to cope with critical land in Gunung Kidul to be functioned as education forest and field research for the students of Gadjah Mada University.
The first planted plantation was mulberry (Morus Alba). The leaves can be used to feed silkworm and they do not fall off easily. The leaves are sold at 1 Ringgit (2,50 Rupiah) per kilogram by that time. The management as the buyer used them as silkworm feed. The results of the cocoon sales are used as development fund.
In this forest, there are camp site, lodging, dining room, sport facilities, hall, and - of course - classroom.
Enjoying the Scenery from Cendana Hill
Wanagama is located in Banaran Village, Playen District of Gunung Kidul Regency. There are two entrance ways but end at the same point. Unfortunately, the connecting bridge was hit by the quake and is under reconstruction now.
Going around Wanagama can be done by motorcycle of on foot by choosing challenging route. Riding motorcycle feels like going through the jungle in Jurassic Park film where visitors can only see the border of the forest on both sides.
The trip becomes an encouraging challenge. Groups of sandalwood, teakwood, acacia, mahogany, sengon, and many other trees will accompany your journey.
Climbing Cendana Hill that is higher compared to the others, you can see beautiful scenery of Wanagama forest. The green color of the forest and meadow, and the stream of Oya River of which water flows calmly in brownish color is reflected brightly by the sun. On bright days, the top of Merapi Mountain will be seen; it adds the beauty of Wanagama enchantment.
Sometimes, there are some deer relaxing around Cendana Hill. Visitors can see them clearly if they are lucky.
Relaxing at Oya River
Continuing the trip from west side to the north, visitors will see Oya River flowing beautifully in front of them. They can relax themselves enjoying the bright air and fresh water. Soaking face with the water will be so refreshing. Looking at the dragonflies and hearing the sound of water flowing in a small stream and the chirp of prenjak bird gives quietness to the mind. YogYES gets relax for a while here and breathe in the fresh natural air.
Close to Oya River, there is a waterfall flowing all the time. It is encircled by trees so that it looks like hiding its beauty.
In this forest with more than 65 types of timbers and hundreds of herbs, Prince Charles and Prince Bernhard left remembrance of teakwood (Tectona Grandis). The teakwood planted by Prince Charles is named Jati Londo. This tree becomes more interesting when it dried before reaching 1 meter high. It was coincidental with the publication of his separation with the late Diana Princess. After growing and reaching three meters high, this tree withered and broke. This was coincidental with the publication of his divorce. Then, this tree grew again with two branches.
Enjoy the evening while looking at the sun setting behind the horizon. When the sun begins to set in the west, tens of birds fly back to their nest. When night begins to hang in between the trees, the silence will slowly be broken by the choir of crickets. Tiredness of the adventure in Wanagama Forest is redeemed by the peace of nature. Namanya warung bakso "Kuning Gading".
